The Man Behind
the Mush
Who is Zakhayelos? Rumors abound regarding this
enigmatic figure, the imaginative, moody, and at times arrogant entity who keeps the
Fading Suns Mush alive and running smoothly. Some say he is a former operative of
an ultra-secret government agency, forced to resign in shame after a botched covert
mission in Central America. Others claim he is a reclusive millionaire hypochondriac,
living in a remote cabin in the Rockies from which he surfs the internet without fear
of human contact. There are even a few who believe that Zakhayelos is not human at
all, but the result of a U.S. Air Force experiment in artificial intelligence, running
on a mainframe buried deep within a secret bunker in Nevada.

The truth is
probably far less interesting than any of the speculation currently
in vogue among the conspiracy theorists. Yet does this
really
matter?
The Fading Suns universe is, after all is said and done, a fantasy
realm in which almost anything is possible. If Zakhayelos is,
in fact, a historian and budding author who
devotes his spare time to the continued enjoyment of all those
who play at the Fading Suns Mush, who are we to find fault with
that reality? If he is, in fact, the real-life
villain upon whom the X-Files' infamous Smoking Man was based,
should we complain about that reality? The truth may be
out there, but can we handle it? |
